The History of the Ten Nations after the Breaking

Araiya Jyoti d'Arath

Gentling and False Dragons

The Sisters of the Red Ajah dedicate their lives to finding men who can channel, and then gentle them. They do this to prevent them from going mad by the taint on saidin and cause a lot of destruction. The Red Ajah want to prevent the world from another breaking.

A man who is going to be genteled is taken to the White Tower. There, the Amyrlin Seat together with twelve Sisters gather to perform the ceremony. After the man has been genteled he can still sense the True Source, but never reach it.

Saidin is described as a struggle between life and death; you have to fight against it. It is the opposite of saidar, which you must give in to. When a man is filled with saidin he can feel, just like a woman, life flowing through his body. The senses and impressions are stronger. Thus a genteled man will loose his will to live, and usually he will die within a year.

Since the Breaking many men have declared themselves to be the Dragon Reborn. Famous names:

Raolin Darksbane (335-336 AB)
He was born in Aren Mador, which today is known as Far Madding. He was captured by Aes Sedai and taken to the White Tower. His men went to attack against the Shining Walls when he was about to be genteled.

Yurian Stonebow (1300-1308 AB)
He was born in Fel Moreina, which today is known as Far Madding. When six Aes Sedai tried to capture him he killed three of them and captured the rest.

Davian (FY 351)

Guaire Amalasan (FY 939-943)
He was born in Darmovan, which today is known as Arad Doman. He declared himself to be the Dragon Reborn in FY 939 and the coming four years he conquered half of the Westlands, this is known as the Second War of the Dragon. In FY 943 he was captured by Aes Sedai who genteled him in the White Tower.

Gorin Rogad (ca 995 NE)
He were in Illian. Illianers captured him and burned him alive.

Logain Ablar (997 NE)
He is originally from Ghealdan and went hard on the nation after he had declared himself to be the Dragon Reborn. Ha was captured and genteled in the White Tower. The Amyrlin Seat Siuan Sanche and her Keeper of the Chronicles Leane Sharif were stilled during the Tower Coup, but they escaped by the help of Min. They found Logain in the city and took him with them to Salidar, where the rebels gathered. Nynaeve managed to Heal the broken link between him and the True Source, and he re-gained his former strength. Later he found his way to the Black Tower and became Asha’man.

Mazrim Taim (998 NE)
A Saldaean, he declared himself to be the Dragon Reborn in his home nation. He also went hard on the nation and Davram Bashere hunted him together with his men. He went to Andor and Rand al’Thor, who had promised that all men with the ability to channel could come there free. There he taught Rand how to see if a man could learn how to channel, or were born with the spark. He was appointed leader of the Asha’man after Rand, and the Asha’man call him M’Hael, which means Leader.
